Two weeks before we broke up for the Christmas holiday the whole school had a theme week concerntrating on one religion. Year four did lots of exciting work on Hinduism, as well as finding out lots of really interesting facts about Hinduism (like that it is the oldest religion in the world and the third largest religion inthe world!) we learnt all about different Hindu festivals. One festival we learnt lots about was Diwali (the festival of light). We tried lots of activties that Hindu children might do during Diwali. We drew rangoli ptterns with chalk (Usually these would be drawn on the pavement but it was raining!)

elephantThis half term 4HC’s science question has been ‘How could you move an elephant across the playground?’

To help use answer this question we have learnt lots about forces. We have looked at gravity, friction, magnetism and springs.

Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria

Year 4 have been learning all about the Victorians this half term. We have had loads of fun dressing up in Victorian clothes!

We had a wonderful time at the Black Country Museum near Birmingham. We had a lesson in a Victorian school. The teacher inspected our hands and shoes to check they were clean and we did some handwrting practice on a slate. She was very strict!
Briony working really hard in the Victorian classroom
Ty concentrating super hard on her handwriting! Can you remember what we were writing on?
Leo was told off and sent toface the wall! They were only pretending though, he was beautifully behaved all day really!

We also played with Victorian toys  (which were very different to our toys!) and went down a mine to see the jobs that children not much older than us had to do in Victorian times, it was pitch black
It was really interesting looking around the Victorian houses and shops!

This lady taught us all about the Victorian sweet shop and how she made the sweets! Can you remember what they used to colour the sweets?

This picture was inside the smallest Victorian house we looked around. We were really shocked to find out that 11 children had to share one room and it was absolutely tiny!

We all went for a walk around Basford to compare modern and Victorian style buildigs

Is the house modern or Victorian? How did we know?
